I landed in Taipei knowing almost nothing about it. My expectations were low. Four days later, it had become one of my favorite cities in Asia.<\/p>\n

Taiwan was the last stop of my 15-day cruise around Asia<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span>, and I stayed four nights at the end before flying on to Shanghai. Best call of the whole trip.<\/p>\n

Taipei is a proper hidden gem. Most people skip it or use it as a quick stop before flying elsewhere. That is a mistake, and I want to change your mind.<\/p>\n

The first thing that hit me was the calm. Clean streets, quiet corners, polite people, green parks everywhere. It felt like the order of Japan with the warmth of Southeast Asia<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span>. I went in January, and the weather was mild.<\/p>\n

So here is how I spent 4 days in Taiwan: three days in the city and one big day trip into the mountains. That one day gave me red lanterns in Jiufen, a mini Niagara waterfall, sky lanterns, and a whole village of cats, all within an hour of Taipei.<\/p>\n

This Taipei itinerary only covers the city and a few nearby spots. Taiwan is far bigger than that, and you could easily spend two or three weeks here. But if 4 days in Taiwan is all you have, this is how I would spend them.<\/p>\n
